Q: What and who is Zend?
A: The Zend Engine is the engine that dose all the processing work for PHP on the web server. Designed by Zend Technologies Ltd. in 1997 as a complete rewrite of PHP/FI 2.0. Zend was founded by Zeev Suraski and Andi Gutmans (two Israeli developers at the Technion IIT.) Some say without Zend, PHP would not be what it is today or as popular.
